The boots in our Borderland family are perfectly suited for casual use or light duty work. The upper features our USA-made, waterproof, full grain Trout Brook leather. Our Borderland sole is slip-resistant, with a tread design that facilitates the release of mud and dirt.

The Borderland 3866 features these technologies:

UltraDry™ Waterproofing System

Our UltraDry™ construction combines a moisture management lining with waterproof components for dry, long-lasting comfort and performance.

An Irish Setter exclusive scent control process, ScentBan™ is added to various materials from leathers to linings to footbeds, killing bacteria that cause odors.

CuShin™ Comfort tongue technology was designed to minimize pressure some hunters feel on their shin from the top of the boot tongue. A four-way stretch nylon offers relief and flexibility while walking, and an internal padded waffle mesh maintains premium comfort.

Trout Brook Leather

Handcrafted by our S.B. Foot Tanning Company, this leather is crafted exclusively for our Irish Setter brand and is named after the trout brook which flows just outside the back door of the tannery in Red Wing, Minnesota. Using only U.S. raised steer hides, the master tanners at S.B. Foot use time- proven methods to create the most durable leather, leather that will meet the demands of the toughest trail or job site.

Care Options

It's well known that proper care and routine maintenance will extend the life of our cars or homes. The same holds true for premium boots. Get the most out of your Irish Setter boots by following our recommended three step process of cleaning, conditioning and protecting them with products designed specifically for that purpose.

A well-prepped, clean surface enhances success when applying conditioners and protectants to your footwear. To clean any of our waterproof leather footwear, you can simply use water and a clean cloth. We recommend Essential Leather Cleaner for our non-waterproof leather boots.

NaturSeal™ is the best performer for conditioning waterproof leather boots. NaturSeal™ is a leading-edge conditioning formula which uses breakthrough technology to penetrate waterproof leather, enhancing breathability and pliability. If you prefer to use a wax instead of a liquid, we recommend our Original Mink Oil Paste. To condition oil tanned leather footwear, we recommend the Original Mink Oil Paste or All Natural Boot Oil.

Our Essential Leather Protector creates an invisible shield of protection for leather and fabric, and is recommended as the final step in our care process.

To ensure your rubber footwear stays in good condition wipe or spray with lukewarm water after use and allow to dry naturally. If soap is required for additional cleaning, we recommend using a non-scented soap. Store all footwear in a cool, dry, location avoiding direct contact with any heat source, extreme cold or sunlight.

By taking time for proper care of your footwear, you'll not only notice better performance in the field, but your Irish Setter boots will last longer too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Laces are very weak The shoes are comfortable and look good. Unfortunately, the laces are extremely poor quality. Either the eyelets are too sharp or the cloth covering on the lace are poor quality. Either way, for $160+ shoe, the laces should last more than 45 days with light wear and use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Laces are complete junk! Shoes are really nice other then the garbage laces. I'm giving these shoes a poor rating for 2 simple reasons. 1st if you buy these shoes plan to replace the laces as they will fall apart quickly. Both of mine have broken within the first 2weeks of wearing them. Its extremely disappointing to have to replace the laces for what these shoes cost. I've I've bought a lot of other brands that I have never had to replace the laces. The laces out lived the shoes. 2nd I've emailed Red Wing with no response other then the canned "thanks for contacting us, we will contact you within 24 hrs" no response in 7 days. The shoe a very comfortable and I'm sure I will get a lot of good use out of them. The laces are just junk. I can't currently wear them as I'm waiting for new laces on Amazon to be shipped to me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very comfortable but sole does not last I am on my third and last pair of these, I continued to buy them thinking I would have the old ones resoled until I found out you can't resole these. I am in construction, but I do mostly estimating and don't spend very much time on the job site. The heals wear out after 5-6 months of daily wear exposing the air voids and start to feel odd when walking. No I don't drag my feet and this is the only pair of boots I've had this happen to, it's kinda sad because they are the most comfortable boot I've ever owned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable shoe, but the footbed wore out. I enjoy the shoe as a whole. I'm on my feet a lot and I'm a big guy. I understand that I wear shoes out long and, therefore, give them a short life. I've had my shoes for about six months and they're holding up very well. I've got some decent wear on my tread but the rest of the shoe hasn't cracked or detached anywhere. My only complaint is that the footbed, that was so awesome for the four months, has worn out and now I can barely be on my feet for five minutes without them feeling on fire. I go home and my back aches and I have a lot of leg fatigue. I've been at my job for three years, so I'm used to the job. If I could purchase the footbeds that originally came with it I feel that I would be able to give my shoes another six months of life. If anyone has information on where I can find them, please, let me know. Thank you in advance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sole Wear/Cracking Upper I purchased mine in black leather. I also keep them clean and well conditioned. The upper started cracking, and the sole wore prematurely at the heels. After stepping in water, I can hear a spongy sound. I purchased these about a year and a half ago. Funny thing is, I drive a lot. I did use these for work by the way, I do IT so I'm not rough on them. It's a shame, the look is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing These shoes are tough. I work on concrete most of the time installing base boards. I drag the toe. I run from room to room. From my truck to the houses I work on, mud sand and construction debris. Other shoes I have are too heavy, or too hot or fall apart in three months. My pair have lasted over 2 years so far. They are not pretty looking any more, but no holes, tread looks like new still and very comfortable. I love these shoes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Heal wore out in less than one year Heal wore out in less than one year. Shoe was not heavily used. Wore it to walk the dog twice a day and run errands or go to the grocery store. Shoe it self is great and fits well. Heal wore out and soles are not replaceable. Not a good buy for the money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought these shoes to wear for work driving a truck. 8 months later I am in the market for a new pair of shoes as the soles are coming apart. For the price of these I expected them to last well over a year. They are comfortable but not durable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Give me a sole that can be replaced on a boot that is $189.99 After having ankel surgery and being very picky as to quality and comfort of my boots I have to say this is an excellent product. I work at a Marina where pulling boats around on docks, standing on hot pavement, and walking around all day in a boot that is soaked with water on the outside and standing in puddles of water is a daily occurrence. With that being said these "Rugged Casual Boots" are more comfortable then any running shoe you can even imagine, the sole doesn't feel as though you strapped a 2x4 to the bottom of your foot they are simular to a hiking boot . They are extremely comfortable and work well with prescription orthotics, and never once aside from falling into water have my feet ever been wet in these boots. But for $189.99 Please find a way to replace the soles on these the leather is beautiful and holds up extremely well to anything you throw it's way, why can't your sole? only 4 months old and there are holes in the soles they are smooth, and bubbling.
